Sometime today (December 6, 2024) my website will reach quite a milestone…1,000,000 hits. Incredible. I just wanted to make a quick post to thank all of you who have, at some point across the past 8 years, read an article and perhaps shared it with someone else. It really means the world to me.
From writing a guest blog post for The Learning Scientists in October of 2016, to starting this website that same month, to a book being published next month (!!!), it has been an amazing journey of learning and becoming a more effective teacher. Thank you so much for your support and conversation along the way.
My good friend, Brad Busch, recently asked me if, when I started the blog, I thought it would ever reach a million hits. The answer is a resounding no. I was just a high school teacher in Alabama reading and writing and working through his thoughts about teaching and learning. I won’t lie, it’s been a labor of love. Sometimes, the words just flow and writing is remarkably pleasurable; other times, it is real work. But, through it all, I’ve met some incredible people and had some lovely experiences. It has truly opened up a world of opportunities. Whenever I think I’ve reached the apex of this journey, another wonderful opportunity presents itself…like my first international speaking event (The Teaching and Learning Summit) coming up in February.
And it all started out with one leap of faith. One tweet to The Learning Scientists followed up by a DM where I was asked if I wanted to write about my experiences in the classroom. Thank goodness I said yes.
So, once again…thank you so much for being a part of this journey. The one million views of my website is really cool, but the people I’ve met on social media, zoom chats, webinars, podcasts, and at conferences are the real treasures. You have added so much to my ability to reach and teach my students and to my growth as a person. Words are all I have…but they don’t seem to be enough to adequately thank you.
Here’s to more learning and another million hits. : )
I love data. So, just for giggles, here’s a list of my all-time top three viewed articles:
- The Pyramid of Myth
- Assumptions About Learning in the Classroom
- Maximizing the Effectiveness of Multiple Choice Questions
